The Coastal Bend of Texas has great diversity and numbers of birds
due to its location. Eastern habitats meet with drier western habitats.
Tropical areas blend into sub-tropical and temperate areas, the beach
meets brushy rangeland, rivers and estuaries meet barrier islands, and
flyways converge at the curve of the bend. Because of the proximity of
the diverse habitats and the Gulf of Mexico, the area attracts many
resident, migrant and accidental birds.
Corpus Christi has won the title Birdiest City in the United States (pdf)
each year since 2003 and consistently ranks in the top 5
for number of species in the
Audubon
Christmas Counts.
Coastal Bend Audubon Society is a chapter of the National Audubon Society. Our meetings are held
on the first Tuesday of the month from September through May at 7 pm at
the Corpus Christi Museum of Science & History, 1900 Chaparral St.
(view map).
We invite you to join us for meetings, field trips, or other
conservation oriented activities as we celebrate and work to preserve
our bountiful birds.
Vision Statement
We envision a culture of conservation in which the shared appreciation
