Meeting Summary: Millions of birds are dying from window strikes each year, so the more awareness we can raise, the better. Our speaker will explain why birds hit windows, treatment/survivability of birds that hit windows, and ways to mitigate problems.
About Our Speaker: Andrew Orgill is an Outreach Program Coordinator in the Department of Marine Science at the University of Texas Marine Science Institute (UTMSI) at Port Aransas. Andrew also serves as the staff supervisor at the Amos Rehabilitation Keep (ARK) on the UTMSI campus and is a Certified Wildlife Rehabilitator. The ARK rehabilitates birds and sea turtles found on the coast. Andrew has done a series of YouTube videos called “Talk Science to Me,” in which he explains how raptors are often patients at the ARK, what makes them unique and their importance in the food chain. In addition to his skills with capture, transport, treatment, and release of wild birds and other wildlife, Andrew is also an excellent birder and a proficient bird photographer.
