Field Trip Description: Observing nesting shorebirds in the areas of Tule Lake, Fulton Corridor, North Beach, Indian Point, and Sunset Lake Park, Portland.

Registration required one week in advance (by July 6th). Minimum for the trip is 3 participants. NOTE THAT CURRENTLY FIELD TRIPS ARE OPEN TO ALL INTERESTED PARTIES.

Group Meets: Field Trip Group will meet at 6:45 AM at the Tule Lake Observation Platform. Tule Lake is a tidal lake located off Southern Minerals Road, Corpus Christi. (Tule Lake Physical Address: 7201-7203 Up River Rd, Corpus Christi, TX 78409). Take Exit 6 off 1-37 and follow Southern Minerals Road (51) north toward the river. Turn left on Up River Road and proceed to the overlook. The Field Trip Group will caravan from there to the other nesting sites.

Rest Stop / Bathroom Break: Note that there is not a bathroom in the vicinity of the Tule Lake Observation Deck, so participants are encouraged to stop at a public restroom before arriving at Tule Lake. In route to Portland, a rest stop at North Beach Whataburger (located along Highway 181, Corpus Christi, at 4444 E CAUSEWAY BLVD.)

Lunch (Optional): The Field Trip Group will stop at a local restaurant in Portland for lunch.Stress level: Moderate, a little walking.

Birds of Interest:  Fulvous Whistling-Duck, Magnificent Frigatebird, Reddish Egret, Clapper Rail, Snowy, Wilsons Plovers, Black-necked Stilt, American Avocet, several species of summering sandpipers, Least, Gull-billed, Caspian, Forster's, Royal and Sandwich Terns, Common Nighthawk, Monk Parakeet, White-tailed Hawk, Couch's Kingbird, Horned Lark, swallows.

MATERIALS TO HAVE AVAILABLE: Scope, binoculars, comfortable hiking shoes, hat, sunscreen, insect repellent (especially for chiggers & mosquitoes). Always be on the look out for fire ants.
